I am passionate about meeting new people, learning new ways of doing things, traveling, and exploring new cultures. These passions have led me to work with adolescents in schools in Canada (11 years), China (5 years), and India (12 years). I have worked as a counselor with families and children from all over the world, comprising over 30 nationalities. The insights that I've gained about peoples and cultures have shaped my philosophy and approach to counseling. The belief that everyone has the tools and knowledge to shape their own future the way that best fits them forms the basis of my counseling approach. This belief led me to explore the Solution Focused Brief Therapy approach to counseling. I'm also a Certified Master Solution Focused Practitioner, International Alliance of Solution-Focused Teaching Institutes (IASTI).
I completed my Master of Education, School Counseling, at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009 and my Master of Education in Curriculum from St. Mary's University, Halifax 1994. I received a Certificate of International Skills for International School Counselors from Miami, in 2009.
Living in India has given me a deep appreciation for the qualities of life that sustain people through hardships and stresses. I believe that the mind, body and soul are interwoven, and when all three work in harmony, peace results, and one's direction is clear. Working with these three parameters is important when counseling, to find the best solutions. My training in Mindfulness helps me guide clients by using a holistic, cognitive or behavioral therapy approach.
